  1. komt van TL heb het s opgezocht voor jullie

    I'm going to try and explain a simple problem some users experience.

    1. A torrent pops up, lots of leechers appear. You go and download the torrent, with your high-speed broadband connection, thinking that you will seed to all those leechers, increasing your ratio.

    2. You've downloaded the whole torrent. But for some reason, you only upload @ 100 kB/s. Even though you sit on a 10/10 line. What to do?

    There's a very simple explanation to this: swarms. When you download files from a torrent you appear in the so called 'swarm'. This is where all the new leechers will appear, sharing between each other.

    When you've sucessfully downloaded a torrent you get removed from this 'swarm', as you no longer are a leecher, but a seeder. The persons still downloading the torrent (the leechers) keep on sharing between each other, ocassionaly downloading from a seeder to get new files.

    In other words: when you've completed a download, you get less people downloading from you.

    But the question still remains: how can I solve this problem?

    The answer is capping your download speed. This is done (in most programs, such as µTorrent) by right-clicking on your torrent in the program window & choosing either 'Bandwith Allocation -> Download Limit -> XXX kB/s' or similar.

    When you do this, you put a border as to how fast you can download a file. If you set your download limit to 100 kB/s, you will download in 100 kB/s.

    This is a very good way to increase your ratio, as you will still stay in the 'swarm' for a longer time, considering you download slower than without the download limit.

    This will hopefully explain atleast a little as to why you cannot seed properly. Remember to set a download limit and you should be fine. As said earlier;

    swarming is the most important thing on TL.

    Ofso  ;)
